30. Advent - The Season of Waiting

29. “And death shall have no dominion”
Is a poem written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914–1953). The title comes from St. Paul’s epistle in Romans 6:9.

And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always be at your back
The sunshine warm upon your face
The rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
May the roof of your house never fall in,
and those beneath it never fall out.

21. From an Irish Independent Editorial
“How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it.” Marcus Aurelius Roman Philosopher (It's a question worth engaging with, instead of succumbing to the spontaneous spate of lashing out indiscriminately – a red mist that has descended across the land… Anger, like all emotion, is involuntary. It should always get a hearing, but should never be relied upon for the final verdict.

O Holy Spirit –
Replace the tension within me with holy relaxation;
Replace the turbulence within me with a sacred calm;
Replace the anxiety within me with a strong faith;
Replace the bitterness within me with the sweetness of Your grace;
Replace the darkness within me with Your guiding light;
Replace the coldness within me with a gentle warmth.

15. Easter Prayer #2
Lord, the resurrection of Your Son
has given us new life and renewed hope.
Help us to live as new people
in pursuit of the Christian ideal.
Grant us wisdom to know what we must do,
the will to want to do it,
the courage to undertake it,
the perseverance to continue to do it, and the
strength to complete it

11. A Personal Reflection #1
Something I did not give much thought to until the pandemic arrived was how small the world is. I find it very frightening that a disease can strike so quickly and affect the whole world. Even though I learned that the catholic church is universal (Catholic means universal), I never gave it much thought until now.
We are united all over the world not just at a local level with our brothers and sisters in faith but we are in a bond that extends far beyond physically being present to one another.
We are TOGETHER in prayer, UNITED in faith and BOUND together in Jesus.

Thank you Lord for the gift of our faith. Let us remember each other in prayer that we may all experience the Love and Compassion of Jesus during this Easter season. Amen

6. An Old Prayer
During these days when people are prevented from receiving Holy Communion physically, we can still receive the gift spiritually. The following prayer is an old one, but one which can help us in these times.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

5. An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be seperated from You.
Amen

4. A Prayer for our Priests as they exercise their ministry during this time of the COVID-19

Eternal God, Be with our priests this day as they seek to minister to your people. May you be a guiding and protective presence with them as they bring the consolation and hope of Your word and the grace and nourishment of Eucharist to those entrusted into their care. Grant them the strength of mind and body, keep them safe to do your will, And give them the courage and peace to face each day with trust and confidence in You. Into your hands O God, we commend them; fill them with your grace and healing. Amen

Thoughts of Brother Richard OFM Cap capuchindaycentre.ie March 13, 2020

1.This is a lovely read from Pope Francis.

Tonight before falling asleep think about when we will return to the street.
When we hug again, when all the shopping together will seem like a party.
Let's think about when the coffees will return to the bar, the small talk, the photos close to each other.
We think about when it will be all a memory but normalcy will seem an unexpected and beautiful gift.
We will love everything that has so far seemed futile to us. Every second will be precious.
Swims at the sea, the sun until late, sunsets, toasts, laughter.
We will go back to laughing together.
Strength and courage.
See you soon!
